Celebrating Children's Day Print Version

Children's Day – Sunday, 2 March 2008

Children's Day provides New Zealanders with a special opportunity to spend time with children, create positive memories, and take part in fun activities that start new traditions as well as continue old ones.

Next year's event is on Sunday, 2 March and is New Zealand's eighth celebration.

Key themes
The key theme for Children’s Day 2008 is ‘New Experiences’.

Background
Children’s Day is a non-commercial, annual event and is held on the first Sunday of March every year. Children’s Day was established in 2000 by a group of supporters from government and non-government organisations. Child, Youth and Family is the implementation agency for Children’s Day. Her Excellency Susan Satyanand (wife of the Governor-General) is the patron.

The vision of Children's Day is to see children celebrated, nurtured and treasured by all. The mission is to establish Children's Day as an ongoing tradition in New Zealand.
