Everyday Theatre Print Version

Everyday Theatre is not your average school performance. There is no stage, the boundaries between audience and actors are blurred, and the young viewers determine how the story unfolds.

Developed by Child, Youth and Family as part of the Everyday Communities programme, Everyday Theatre addresses issues of child abuse, neglect, family violence and positive parenting using a medium that young people can understand — the theatre.

Everyday Theatre had its debut in South Auckland schools in July 2004 and has since made waves in Northland, the Wairarapa and Whakatane. Everyday Theatre works primarily with students at the Intermediate or year seven and eight levels.

The primary aim of Everyday Theatre is to empower young New Zealanders to achieve wellbeing and safety.
