Event organisers encouraged to start planning now for Children’s Day 2007

Children’s Day will now be on the first Sunday of March, starting in 2007. Now is the time to start planning events. Local councils, schools, early childhood centres, service clubs, community organisations, clubs and groups, and any other groups interested in creating a fun event for children on 4 March 2007 are encouraged to start working on an action plan.

There will be no Children’s Day this year. The date has been changed from the last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in March in order to avoid Labour Weekend and a busy time of year and hopefully experience more settled weather.

It is hoped that the change of date will increase the number of organisers, participants and activities, resulting in a national community-focussed day that is bigger than ever.

If you need advice on sponsorship or organising an event call 0800 10 33 22 or email givingtime@childrensday.org.nz. For further information about Children’s Day visit www.childrensday.org.nz.

About Children’s Day
Children’s Day is a non-commercial annual national day, founded in the year 2000, with the vision of celebrating and nurturing our greatest treasure, our children. Core values of the day are giving time, praise and encouragement, listening and talking, love and affection, and new experiences. The Children’s Day website www.childrensday.org.nz will be updated in October.
