The Netsafe web site has been compiled by the Internet Safety Group with information targeted at parents, young adults, children and schools to help keep young people safe on the Net. Its Internet Safety Kit includes a raft of useful guidelines and resources on safe surfing and what to do when problems arise.
The Internet Safety Group includes representatives of Child, Youth and Family, the New Zealand Police, the Department of Internal Affairs – Censorship Compliance, educators and community groups.
The Safety Kit acknowledges that young people now surf the Internet every day as part of their education and recreation and is, for some, one of the most important ways in which we communicate with each other. But it can have a downside when children and young people have negative experiences on the Net.
