Nominations now open for scholarship awards
Nominations for this year's William Wallace awards, for outstanding young people in foster care, are now open.
The national awards are to help the young people pursue their dreams with leadership, tertiary or vocational training. All sorts of young people have won William Wallace awards in the five years since they were launched. Many have come from extremely difficult backgrounds, and have overcome significant barriers, yet their talents and determination to succeed shine through.
The awards have been used by past winners to help them develop their talent in areas ranging from the sports and arts, right through to studying engineering at university.
The awards are open young people who are in Child, Youth and Family care or in the care of iwi or child and family services (or recently came out of care at 17), and who are able to take up their award in 2011.
Anyone can nominate a special young person in care that they know. It's a great chance to honour our young people, show we support them, show we support them and help them reach their potential.
