Job No. CYF3964
Published Date: 28 Jul 2010

Make a difference everyday

Our Lower North Youth Justice Residential Centre provides for the wellbeing of some of New Zealand’s most challenging and vulnerable young people, aged 14 to 17 years. Located in Palmerston North, it is one of four youth justice residences run by Child, Youth and Family.

We’re looking for enthusiastic people with excellent communication skills who are looking to be part of a team that is instrumental in turning young lives around.

As part of our care team, youth workers are strong role models who mentor and support young people staying in the residence. Daily contact provides the opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of these young people. As part of the care team you will work a rotating roster, and this involves working some weekends.

To excel in the role of Youth Worker you will have a background in working with at risk youth and young people with a background in social and behavioural issues. A tertiary qualification in sport and recreation, health, education or youth work is preferable for this role, however these qualifications are not essential and life experience will also be taken into account. Most of all you must have a passion for wanting to make a positive difference in the lives of young people.

Child, Youth and Family, a service of the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), recognises and has a commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
