About the programme
The National Caregiver Training Programme is a partnership between Child, Youth and Family and Fostering Kids (formerly New Zealand Family and Fostercare Federation).
We work together to make sure foster children and young people are given the best of care by providing learning and development opportunities for caregivers. We offer a range of workshops, publications, and access to national qualifications.
Our workshops are free and open to anyone in New Zealand who is caring for someone else's child, as well as caregiver social workers and Non-Government Organisation (NGO) representatives. This includes agency caregivers, respite carers, and family/whānau caregivers.
Our commitment is to deliver engaging learning opportunities to carers across New Zealand. Carers are ordinary people who do an extraordinary job in providing love, care and support to children and young people who can't live with their own families.
We value caregivers, and their feedback about what it is they really need, and are excited to announce we now have 12 new learning opportunities workshops. The workshops are designed to help caregivers in their role, building on the wonderful skills and knowledge they have.
Our workshops are now delivered over one day, they are open and interactive, and our trainers draw on a wealth of knowledge to deliver sessions packed with helpful information and opportunities for caregivers to learn some new skills.
