Being a caregiver

Children and young people belong in families and they have the right to live with them and to remain safe from harm. However, when things go wrong, and the family unit is not a place where the child or young person is safe, Child, Youth and Family has a legal responsibility, and indeed a moral duty, to act.

Caregiving is about providing an appropriate family-like setting in which children and young people who cannot live with their own families/whanau, are looked after and cared for.

Read 'Facts for caregivers' to find out more about becoming a caregiver for Child, Youth and Family.
