Becoming a SWiS social worker

Social Workers in Schools (SWiS) are passionate about what they do, because they help to enhance the lives of children and young people everyday. Based in schools, they bring together school, health, family and social needs, to bring out the best in the child.

On the job...

Social workers and school staff talk about the SWiS service:

"I find the relationship I have with the kids is unbelievably fantastic, they tell you everything, they run  up to you in the playground – they are just looking for a really safe person in their lives and they just need someone to believe in them," Primary school SWiS social worker.

"I feel very passionate about the impact of the service. We've seen kids go from destructive to happy, confident young people. Who know what might have been without the service?" Primary school principal.

“Young people used to want to be in gangs, now the majority say, ‘No way, I’m going to uni or polytech. The kids know we’re there for them and that’s what makes the difference.” Secondary school SWiS social worker.
