The building of Rotorua's new youth Justice residence marks its half way milestone today by the announcement it will be called "Te Maioha o Parekarangi", meaning "a gift for the benefit of all who live here".

Named by local Iwi and the Parekarangi Trust, who have leased the site to the Ministry of Social Development, the new residence is well on track for opening in late 2010.

Child, Youth and Family Residential Services General Manager, Marama Wiki said, "I would like to personally thank the local iwi, the Trust and the community for working with us to create a vitally important service for our young people.

"This residence will allow our young people to stay closer to their families while they receive rehabilitation, therapy and services they need.

"This week we have asked the residence's Community Liaison Group, made up of local iwi,  community and government representatives, to join our tour of the site. They will be able to see first hand the results of their continued support.

"Recruitment of staff for the residence also begins this week, with the creation of approximately 100 jobs. This is a great opportunity for people in the local community who are interested in making a difference in the lives of our young people.

"I would encourage anyone who is interested in applying to visit the careers section of our website," said Ms Wiki.
