In this section you can read information on the full range of our adoption work including advice, rights, information for adopted people, for birth parents, people who want to adopt, people who were adopted and intercountry adoption. There are also useful links related to adoption and contacts for support groups and counselling information.

The role of Adoption Services at Child, Youth and Family is to provide advice and services on adoption both within New Zealand and from other countries. This includes counselling birth parents, preparing those wanting to become adoptive parents, approving the placement of children for adoption and reporting to the Court.

Adoption Services also provides some services after the adoption is complete, as well as services to adult adopted people, birth parents and adoptive parents under the Adult Adoption Information Act.
